Sonic Shadow - AI Hearing

by Xanamu · all their mods

The AI no longer receives the exact position of a gunshot, and a hill or a wall now makes the shot quieter. A round that passes near an AI is still heard.

Version 1.1.0 gave the AI a bearing error and a range error, and it made a hill or a wall take sound away. Version 1.2.0 puts your cover in control of both. YOUR COVER DECIDES HOW WELL THE AI FINDS YOU - Fire from the wall of a building, and the AI puts your direction on the building. - Move back from that building, and the AI locates you almost as well as a shooter in the open. - The distance between you and your cover decides this. The distance of the AI does not decide it. A FAR SHOT SOUNDS MUCH FURTHER AWAY THAN IT IS - The AI reports a shot at 500 metres as a shot near 1100 metres. A person cannot hear the level at the muzzle, and the AI now has the same limit. - A near shot keeps its correct distance. - A burst gives your direction away, and it never gives your distance away.

Description from the Workshop

In the base game an AI group receives the exact position of each shot it hears, and the identity of the shooter. It hears every shot inside 500 metres, through hills, walls and buildings. Sonic Shadow makes two changes: - The reported position gets a bearing error and a range error. - A hill, a wall or a building makes the shot quieter. Sight, skill, aim and rate of fire stay as they are. WHAT THE AI KNOWS ABOUT A GUNSHOT A person finds the direction of a gunshot well, and the distance badly. The error follows that rule. It is 6 degrees across the line to the shot, with a maximum of 40 metres, and 25 per cent of the distance along that line, with a maximum of 90 metres. - At 100 metres the AI receives a point 10 metres to one side and 25 metres short or long. - At 250 metres it receives a point 26 metres to one side and 63 metres short or long. One group and one shooter receive one area, and that area does not move between two rounds. Each further shot makes the area smaller, to a floor of 3 metres. At 250 metres the first shot gives 63 metres along the line, and the sixth shot gives 15 metres. One shot does not give you away. A long fire fight does. The AI receives the true position at 15 metres and nearer. At contact range a person knows where the shot came from. It also receives the true position when a member of the group saw the shooter inside the last second. A gunshot must not make a group know less than it can see. This change is a change in what the AI knows. Each AI decides on its own whether it heard the shot, and a squad shares what one member hears. A shot that a wall stops for one soldier can still reach the group of that soldier through a second soldier in the open. That behaviour is correct. WHAT THIS MOD REFUSES - Sight through fields, trees, bushes and rocks. The AI sees exactly as it sees today. - A front on the danger sectors. The AI keeps its awareness of danger in every direction. The mod makes a sector occur less often, b...
