LAV-25A4 “Warden” Expeditionary Reconnaissance and Counter-Drone Combat Vehicle In response to evolving battlefield lessons from the Persian Gulf, Eastern Europe, and the Indo-Pacific, the United States Marine Corps has elected to extend and modernize the proven LAV-25 platform rather than pursue a costly replacement program. The result is the LAV-25A4 “Warden” — a survivable, networked, and expeditionary reconnaissance fighting vehicle designed for ambiguous littoral assaults, distributed operations, and high-threat screening missions against peer adversaries. The Warden retains the mobility and strategic deployability that made the original LAV-25 indispensable to Marine Light Armored Reconnaissance battalions, while integrating a comprehensive survivability and lethality modernization package tailored for modern mechanized warfare. Survivability Upgrades The LAV-25A4 features a modular Composite Survivability Enhancement Package (CSEP) incorporating: * Bolt-on ceramic/composite applique armor * Spall liner protection throughout crew compartmente * Reinforced belly armor against mines and FPV drone-dropped munitions * Signature reduction coatings and exhaust suppression The upgraded armor suite enables the Warden to survive engagements against modern IFVs and autocannon-equipped reconnaissance vehicles commonly fielded by peer and near-peer adversaries. Counter-UAS Defense Suite Recognizing the dominance of drones on the modern battlefield, the Warden integrates the AN/VLR-7 Sentinel counter-UAS system: * RF jamming and spoofing capability * Remote Weapon Station with programmable airburst munitions The system enables independent operation in drone-saturated environments without reliance on external air defense assets.
